1) Print out this page or copy the grid diagram onto a large sheet of paper.

2) Write your current problem or mental block in the center square.

3) In each of the 8 boxes around the center square (marked A - H) write down a potential solution to the problem posed in the center square. Don't hold back. Here is your opportunity to be as creative a possible. For a question such as "How can I give my next promotion a real twist," the 8 outer boxes could contain words like: technology; current trends; unique new product; new copy treatment; new design; etc.

4) Once each of those 8 boxes are filled, copy over the content from the boxes A-H into the center squares of the 8 out boxes of 9 (marked A-H again).

5) Now do the same as step number 3 for each of those outer groups. As an example, the box marked 'Technology' might have these sub headings based around it: Internet based; blinking lights; sound enhanced; automated functions; etc.

6) When your diagram is complete, you will have 64 new ideas and one of them (if not several) might just be the perfect solution to your initial problem.
